The days are getting cooler, so it is the annual tradition at Crane Hollow to focus our attention on the woody invasive plants in our uplands. Some of the plants we will manually be cutting down are Autumn Olive, Privet, Multiflora Rose, Barberry, Asian Bittersweet, and maybe even the occasional Burning Bush or Bush Honeysuckle. We will go over identification and the ecological role of the plants. Staff will follow your efforts up with herbicide application. Crane Hollow has loppers, saws, and gloves for your use, but if you have a favorite pruning saw of your own, feel free to bring it. Long pants and long sleeves are highly encouraged.
All woody invasive days will begin at 10 A.M. in the hopes that everything will be a little warmer. We will provide some snacks and drinks for volunteers, but if you want something more substantial feel free to bring it. Crane Hollow can provide you with some warm or cool beverages afterwards depending on the temperature and your preferences. Towards the end of our time in the field we will investigate a healthier more mature forest and see the different conditions that exist there.
